Speaker: Guillermo Romero Figueroa
Guillermo is a biologist by training, with a master's degree in forestry and a doctorate in agricultural sciences. For more than 30 years, he has been dedicated to the conservation of Mexico wildlife. Among his experience with bighorn sheep, he has participated in the reintroduction of bighorn sheep to the CEMEX reserve in Coahuila and was in charge of the bighorn sheep project at the San Diego Zoo. He is currently a professor and researcher at the School of Science at UABC and is a member of the Santuario Cimarrón Committee. He is also in charge of the Wildlife Management and Conservation Laboratory, where he has trained more than twenty researchers who are currently working to conserve the Mexico biodiversity. His research interests include conservation biology, animal and forest ecology, and wildlife management.
Speaker: Fernando Escoto
Fernando Escoto has a degree in Biology from the School of Science of the UABC. He completed his Master's degree at the CICESE in Marine Ecology. In 2001, he started working for the Valle de los Cirios Natural Park, where he participated in the elaboration of the management plan for this protected area. He is currently the Subdirector of the A.P.F.F.A. Valle de los Cirios and is in charge of following up the authorization procedures for exploitation projects, works and other activities through the preparation of technical reports.
Speaker: Carlos Lazcano Sahagún
Mr. Carlos Lazcano Sahagún is a renowned Mexican explorer and historian. He has published more than 50 books on the exploration of various natural regions of Mexico and on the history of northwestern Mexico. He is president of the National Society of Explorers and director of the Ensenada History Museum. He has been a member of the Geographic Institute of the UNAM, the University of Yucatan and the Autonomous University of Baja California.
Speaker: Alina Gabriela Monroy Gamboa
Dr. Alina is the editor-in-chief of the magazine of scientific dissemination Therya Ixmana; a member of the Expert Review Committee of the World Commission on Protected Areas of the International Union for Conservation of Nature; a member of the National System of Researchers; has authored six book chapters and fourteen scientific articles in prestigious international journals; and currently works as an adjunct researcher at the Museum of Mammals of CIBNOR in La Paz, BCS. Dr. Alina's research interests include the study of the effects of climate change on sky islands.
Speaker: Raúl Valdez
Dr. Raul Valdez has more than 50 years of professional experience and has led and participated in conservation studies of various species of wild bighorn sheep around the world. He is professor emeritus at New Mexico State University and author of The Wild Bighorn Sheep of the World and The Mountain Bighorn of North America.
